Who Made God?

Category: General Essays 211 0

Modern science teaches us that the universe had a beginning, and Christians understand that God was the one who created the universe and everything in it (Genesis 1:1). This naturally will lead us to one of the most asked questions of all time: “Who made God?” There are many Christians who will probably ask this as soon as they get to heaven, and who can blame them? This is a question that all of us think about at some point. And this question will naturally give rise to other questions. “Did another God create God?” “And then who created the God who created God?” This can go on forever and ever.

However, the Bible gives us the answer as to where God came from. Take a look at the following verses:

“Abraham planted a tamarisk tree in Beersheba, and there he called on the name of the Lord, the Eternal God.” (Genesis 21:33)

“The eternal God is your refuge, and underneath are the everlasting arms.” (Deuteronomy 33:27)

“Your throne was established long ago; you are from all eternity.” (Psalm 93:2)

“Before the mountains were born or you brought forth the whole world, from everlasting to everlasting you are God.” (Psalm 90:2)

“For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.” (Isaiah 9:6)

“But the Lord is the true God; he is the living God, the eternal King.” Jeremiah 10:10

“Lord, are you not from everlasting? My God, my Holy One, you will never die.” Habakkuk 1:12

“Now to the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only God, be honor and glory for ever and ever. Amen.” 1 Timothy 1:17

Who-made-God

It is clear from Scripture that God has always existed, and will continue to exist forever. He has no beginning, and no end. This is very difficult for the human mind to understand since everything that we see has had a beginning, and will eventually come to an end.

But how can God live forever? How can he have no beginning? Jesus supplies us with an answer. In John 4:24 Jesus says that “God is spirit.” God is not a material being like us. His true nature is spirit. He is immortal and invisible (1 Timothy 1:17). Although it is hard for us to understand this now, we will understand when we are in heaven.
