Kicking Jesus out of America

Category: Misc 245 8

Christians have known for years that there has been a war against their faith, and there is plenty of evidence that this has been increasing in the past few years. Christians are clearly more on the defensive in America than any other time in this country. Whether it is universities that are banning Christian groups, the White House favoring Islam and not Christianity, or a host of other things going on in America (see below) it is clear that Christianity is being attacked more than ever before. It seems quite clear that many people in this country are trying to ban Jesus from the public eye in any way possible.[1] Take a look at the following stories:

  • An elementary school in North Carolina told a six-year-old girl to remove the word “God” from a poem that she wrote to honor her two grandfathers that had served in the Vietnam War.
  • The Ohio Statehouse has banned Christian pastors from using Jesus’ name when they open up the daily sessions with prayer.
  • Jesus’ name has also been forbidden in all prayers that open sessions of the North Carolina State-House.
  • Last year, a federal appeals court ruled that prayers that included the name of Jesus before commission meetings in Forsyth County, North Carolina were unconstitutional.
  • A student at Florida Atlantic University was banned from class because he refused to stomp on the name of Jesus.
  • A student at Sonoma State University was told to take off her cross because someone “could be offended.”
  • An open air preacher in Illinois was actually threatened to be arrested because he was “scaring people” with the gospel.
  • A high school track team was disqualified from competing in the Texas state championships because one of its runners “made a gesture thanking God” after crossing the finish line.
  • Then there is the story of Nik Wallenda, the man who walked a tightrope across Niagara Falls and who also has walked a tightrope across the Grand Canyon. Both times he would mention the name of God the Father and Jesus while crossing, yet the mainstream media has gone out of its way to keep the names of God and Jesus out of news reports. ABC News documented much of the achievement and there was no mention at all of Wallenda’s thanks to God.

A recent 140 page report entitled “The Survey of Religious Hostility in America” includes even more examples of how Christianity is being oppressed in America today:

  • A federal judge actually threatened “incarceration” to a high school valedictorian unless she removed Jesus from her graduation speech.
  • City officials prohibited senior citizens from praying over their meals, singing gospel songs, and listening to religious messages at a senior activities center.
  • A public university’s law school banned a Christian organization because the university disagreed with the statement of faith that the organization required its officers to adhere to.
  • The U.S. Department of Justice has argued before the Supreme Court that they (the federal government) have the right to dictate to churches and synagogues which pastors and rabbis they can hire and fire.
  • A federal judge decided that prayers before a state House of Representatives could be made to Allah but not to Jesus.

This attack on Christianity is even affecting the U.S. military. A 23 year veteran in the Air Force was ordered to remove the Bible that sits on his desk, and the Air Force has come out and said that service members are only allowed to talk with others about their faith only if it “does not make others uncomfortable.”

Mikey Weinstein, the man who heads the Military Religious Freedom Foundation (MRFF) has called Christians “human monsters” and “enemies of the United States Constitution.” He even thinks that sharing the gospel with others in the military is “sedition and treason” and should be punished as such. He said about Bible-believing Christians: “Let’s call these ignoble actions what they are: the senseless and cowardly squallings of human monsters.” Michael Snyder said, “You would think that people like Weinstein would be dismissed as lunatics, but unfortunately under the Obama administration he has been brought in as a special adviser to the Pentagon.”

And it doesn’t stop there. Here are some other examples:

  • A War Games scenario at Fort Leavenworth identified Christians as being potential threats.
  • A 2009 Department of Homeland Security memorandum identified future threats to national security as coming from Evangelicals and pro-life groups.
  • A West Point study released by the U.S. Military Academy’s Combating Terrorism Center linked terrorism to pro-lifers.
  • Franklin Graham was uninvited from the Pentagon’s National Day of Prayer service because of some comments he made about Islam.

All of these examples seem to be pointing out to us that we are moving toward a time in the America when Christians will be treated as second class citizens (as they are in Muslim countries).

And There’s More…

The following comes from the article “The Long List of Obama’s Attacks on Religious Freedom” (see the article for more):

  • “May 2009 – Obama declines to host services for the National Prayer Day (a day established by federal law) at the White House.
  • Oct. 19, 2010 – Obama begins deliberately omitting the phrase about “the Creator” when quoting the Declaration of Independence – an omission he has made on no less than seven occasions.
  • April 2011 – For the first time in American history, Obama urges passage of a non-discrimination law that does not contain hiring protections for religious groups, forcing religious organizations to hire according to federal mandates without regard to the dictates of their own faith, thus eliminating conscience protection in hiring.
  • June 2011 – The Department of Veterans Affairs forbids references to God and Jesus during burial ceremonies at Houston National Cemetery.
  • February 2011 – Obama directs the Justice Department to stop defending the federal Defense of Marriage Act.
  • May 2009 – While Obama does not host any National Day of Prayer event at the White House, he does host White House Iftar dinners in honor of Ramadan.
  • 2010 – While every White House traditionally issues  hundreds of official proclamations and statements on numerous occasions, this White House avoids traditional biblical holidays and events but regularly recognizes major Muslim holidays, as evidenced by its 2010 statements on Ramadan, Eid-ul-Fitr, Hajj, and Eid-ul-Adha.”

The Introduction of “The Survey of Religious Hostility in America” says:

“The Obama administration no longer even speaks of freedom of religion; now it is only ‘freedom of worship.’ This radical departure is one that threatens to make true religious liberty vulnerable, conditional, and limited. As some have said, it is a freedom “only within four walls.” That is, you are free to worship within the four walls of your home, church, or synagogue, but when you enter the public square the message is, ‘leave your religion at home.’ President Obama and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton have repeatedly echoed this same message in international forums, acknowledging only a right to the ‘freedom of worship.’ This is no accident, and it has huge ramifications.”

The idea of “only within four walls” has been broken by the Obama Administration itself in regards to its hosting Iftar dinners and its statements concerning Islam (see above). It makes one wonder, in the light of all the news stories above, is Christianity the only religion that needs to stay “within four walls?” (Stories about these kinds of things happening to religions besides Christianity are few and far between.)

Conclusion

It is sad to say, but it seems quite clear that our government is systematically attacking anything that has its roots in the Bible. What do you think? Is all of this a coincidence? Am I overreacting? Or is Christianity really in the crosshairs? Tell me your thoughts and leave a comment below and visit us on Facebook.

The Bible never promised religious freedom but it does promise persecution.
